. . . in Rijnsburg (near Leiden, between Amsterdam / The Hague). The house where Benedictus de Spinoza ( Baruch Spinoza / ברוך שפינוזה in Hebrew) lived from 1661 – 1663 (after being kicked out of / made to feel rather unwelcome, in Amsterdam (where he was born (in 1632),
after his ancestors had precisely fled to Amsterdam in the wake of the Portugese Inquisition (established 1536). In 1663, Spinoza moved to Voorburg, then to The Hague (where he died in 1677, & lies buried, near the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church).
Spinoza’s books were sold after his death. 200 years later, a group of wealthy Spinozists, used this list to locate & bring together as many books from this list as possible (from same year / edition). They found 160 volumes (approximately 20 are still missing).
